Pittsburgh's Future..Now! allows students to look at employment trends in the region and the skills needed to succeed in the future economy. Students are matched with a local company and create a marketing presentation for that company.
The top 10 teams then have the chance to represent their chosen company at a job fair competition. The students use the teacher-led activities to create a job recruitment campaign, and work closely with the local companies to obtain the information they need to complete the activities and campaign. In addition, students have the opportunity to make on-site visits to the companies to gain a better understanding of the companies functions. Companies will also help the top 10 student teams to prepare for the job fair competition by helping them set up their booths and provide company representatives to attend the competition for support.
Pittsburgh's Future...Now! is available to school districts in the 14 counties across western Pennsylvania including: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland.
Over 3,000 middle school students from local schools will be invited to attend the job fair competition to learn more about the different companies in the area, interact directly with local employers, and explore future career options.
